What is an optical bypass switch?
A: it is also named a bypass TAP used for automatically switching faulty nodes when power outages or failures take place, this secures the complete optical transmission.
Where it is used?
A: It is mainly used to prevent network outages, protect the network or control the networking system in the optical telecommunication.
It can be used in ring or linear fiber network architectures such as railway communication systems, factory automation, and power substations.
How do I connect the ports?
A: Please look at the below diagram and connect accordingly.
What are the ordering options?
A: There is SC connector singlemode(4 port), LC singlemode(4 port and 8 port) and LC multimode(4 port and 8 port)for your choice as below photos.
Can your optical bypass units work with different switches?
A: Yes, this device is about the optical transmission level and not involving any network protocols.
It can work with any switches of different optical rates(100M/1G/2.5G/10G/25G/40G/100G).
Do I still need a fiber bypass switch if I have a managed switch?
A: It depends. In a major or important project such as railway transmission system, it is better to have a doubled protection of the power.

What is its component?
A: its an optical switch that could automatically switch when power status changes.
If possible to support wall mounting?
A: Yes, the standard installation is DIN rail. We also have a special rear panel with mounting holes for wall mounting.
There will be a pair of mounting hangers in the packing list.
What is the packing list?
A: 1 piece Fiber Optic Bypass Switch Module, 1 piece user manual and 1 piece warranty card.
Please know that it is NOT including power supply, please purchase it from us separately.
What types of optical bypass units do you offer?
A: Olycom introduces 2 types, one is standalone and the other is integrated version.
For standalone unit, it could be connected with optical ports of different speed and brands.
For integrated bypass switches.it is a combination of industrial managed Ethernet switch and optical switch.

What is the power input of your bypass power off protector?
A: DC12V~52V for both types of bypass fiber switches.
Please know that it is all about DC input, this means an external AC-DC power adapter is required to convert alternate voltage to direct voltage.
This is the popular and standard practice on the market.
What is the switching time?
A: No more than 10ms, this depends on the optical switch component inside.
